The Universities Fund has disbursed Sh4.1 billion in government scholarships to support needy students in public universities.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, through a press statement on August 29, called on the 802,159 beneficiaries in public institutions to log into their Higher Education Funding portals to confirm the status of the disbursement.

With the national government keen on ensuring equity, accessibility and affordability of higher education as a pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, the Universities Fund (UF) is now proactively educating secondary school students about higher education financing opportunities.

The Universities Fund maximised on this year’s Kenya National Research Festival by showcasing its unique services.
During the show held from August 18-22 at Egerton University in Nakuru County, UF sensitised students, parents, and other stakeholders on government scholarships.

First-time university students were given a reprieve after the Universities Fund extended the scholarship application deadline by two weeks.
The move will likely increase the number of students applying for government funding and minimise disruption of students during learning over lack of tuition fees.
