Technical Assistance to the Kenya Health Sector Convention 2022 - Amref Health Africa

The Assignment

Amref Health Africa is an independent non-profit, non-governmental organisation founded in 1957. The Kenya Health Sector Convention 2022 was the first forum following the launch of the partnership framework that brings together all health stakeholders to take stock of progress of implementation of health sector policy and programs. The forum was to provide opportunity to consolidate and harmonise outputs from various forums undertaken within heath sector focusing on specific health investment areas, regional issues, and specific constituencies of the stakeholder’s forum. The purpose of this Consultancy was to provide technical expertise and overall technical assistance to the secretariat, and deliver a technically sound convention including required convention products.

Summary of services

  • Develop the consultancy program of work for approval by the Secretariat.
  • Coordinate review and analysis of best practices at national level and from the 47 counties
  • Contribute to the design and finalisation of the convention program.
  • Contribute to the identification and selection of speakers including contacting and liaising with keynote speakers, panellists, and presenters.

Key milestones

  • Facilitated a one-week workshop organised by the Ministry of Health to evaluate entries of best practices that were submitted as part of the preparations for Kenya Health Convention 2022 under the theme, ‘‘A Decade of Devolved Health Service Delivery: Reflections for Acceleration of UHC’’

  • Reviewed and analysed over 200 best practices that have been implemented with a view to improve health outcomes among citizens across five key themes – Health Financing, Leadership and Governance, Legislation Human Resources for Health; Service Delivery; Health Information Research; and Health Products, Infrastructure and Supply Chain.

  • Developed best practices report, which was guided by the need to take stock of the status of the health sector since the advent of devolution. Report documents the best practices initiated by health practitioners and stakeholders in a bid to accelerate the achievement of Universal Health Care (UHC).
