The Universities Fund organised sensitisation campaigns to assist students to apply for scholarships, as public universities ushered in first-year students in the ongoing September 2025 intake.
Led by the acting Chief Executive Officer, Dr Edwin Wanyonyi, UF team setup help desks from August 25-29 to create awareness about free government scholarships and aid interested students in applying through the Higher Education Financing (HEF) portal.
The institutions where the awareness drives took place were Kibabii University, Kisii University, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, Kenyatta University, and Kirinyaga University.
Others were University of Embu, Murang’a University of Technology, South Eastern Kenya University, University of Eldoret, Tharaka University, and Chuka University.
The deadline for scholarship applications for continuing students was August 31 and September 14 for first-time applicants. The former applied through the USSD code *642# and the latter through the HEF portal.
The Fund has lined up more sensitisation sessions in other institutions to ensure all students access higher education.
